Michaelangelo Buonarroti was born on March 6, 1475, in Caprese, a small village in Tuscany, Italy. At the time of his birth, the village was part of the Republic of Florence, a powerful city-state ruled by the Medici family. Michelangelo came from a long line of minor nobility, and his father, Leonardo di Buonarroto Simoni, held several public offices in the town of Arezzo. However, the family was not wealthy, and Michelangelo grew up in relatively humble circumstances. Despite this, his father recognized his son's talent for art at an early age and encouraged him to pursue it. At the age of 13, Michelangelo began studying under the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio, who introduced him to the techniques of fresco painting. During this apprenticeship, Michelangelo also studied classical Greek and Roman art, which had a profound impact on his later work. In 1490, he moved to Rome to continue his studies, where he became fascinated with the works of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Over the next few years, he honed his craft, creating some of his earliest masterpieces, including "The Pietˆ" and "David." These works quickly established him as one of the leading artists of his generation, and he went on to create some of the most iconic works of art in history, such as the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Throughout his life, Michelangelo remained devoted to his art, constantly pushing himself to new heights of creativity and innovation. Today, he remains one of the greatest artists of all time, celebrated for his technical brilliance, emotional depth, and unparalleled vision.
